Nisar asks world to take notice of Rohingya genocide

Nisar asks world to take notice of Rohingya genocide

A three-member committee including interior minister, advisor to prime minister on foreign affairs and national security and special assistant to PM on foreign affairs would meet today (Sunday) to suggest measures and relief efforts from Pakistan for Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.

The ministry of interior said this in a statement issued here on Saturday.
The statement said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the cabinet meeting held the other day had formed a committee including Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi to suggest measures and relief efforts from Pakistan for the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.
The committee would meet today (Sunday) to deliberate upon the issue.
The PM formed the committee after interior minister raised the issue in the cabinet meeting held to approve budget for fiscal 2015-16.
The statement said that the interior minister had raised the issue twice during cabinet meetings including the one held the other day, in which the Prime Minister and the entire cabinet expressed serious concern over the plight of Muslims in Myanmar.
The interior minister in the statement said that he was hopeful and optimistic that the government of Pakistan would proactively reach out to the battered and oppressed Muslims of Myanmar.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also said that the inaction of the international community and criminal silence of the proponents of human rights and organisations over the gross violations of rights of Rohingya Muslims and their persecution and genocide raises serious questions about the utility and effectiveness of international forums.

Such international forums proclaim themselves as upholder, defender and promoters of human rights and democratic values, the interior minister said.

The minister while making impassioned appeal to the United Nations, OIC, the Muslim World and the regional powers asked the international community not to close their eyes to this genocide.
He cautioned them that the level of atrocities and scale of oppression of the hapless Muslims in this part of the world would nullify recent efforts aimed at addressing the grievances of the Muslims to wean away their youth falling into the traps of militants.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan lamented that except for a few countries, no serious effort had been witnessed from the Muslim world to check the oppressor and to plead the case of the oppressed community.
This, he said, speaks volumes of our apathy and indifferent attitude towards our fellow brethren and is a matter of serious concern for the entire Muslim world.

The Sikh community on Saturday commemorated June 6, recalling sacrifices of a large number of Sikhs at Golden Temple in 1984 during a brutal attack of Indian army on the orders of the then prime minister.
They set up a camp at Charing Cross near Punjab Assembly and protested against the Indian brutality.
Carrying placards and banners, the Sikhs chanted slogans against the Indian army attack that left a number of Sikhs dead and injured at Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) on June 6, 1984.
“We can never forget this tragedy and we still await justice,” Pakistan Sikh Gurdawar Parbandhak Committee chief Sardar Sham Singh said while speaking on the occasion.
MPA Sardar Ramesh Singh said the Indian army even didn’t spare the innocent children and elderly men and women.

PTI submits rejoinder in rigging inquiry

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has denied allegations levelled by PPP before the poll inquiry commission that the results of the 2013 general elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also manipulated.
The reply submitted before the commission by Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, representing the PTI, said the statement filed by the PPP did not contain any “direct, explicit and specific allegations against the PTI”.
In its application submitted by Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on May 29 to the three-judge commission headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk had claimed that the election results in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as Punjab were shocking and the returning and presiding officers had been used to subvert them.
The commission had asked the PTI’s counsel to submit a reply after getting instructions from the party.
The rejoinder said that other than an inchoate, generalised and unsubstantiated insinuation against the PTI in relation to the conduct and organisation of the elections in KP, the PPP application had not mentioned or provided any evidence or material to substantiate the allegation of manipulation of the election results.
More than 20 other political parties which had participated in the elections had also approached the commission since its constitution, it said.
The rejoinder said that if the PPP had any direct, cogent and admissible proof of any direct or indirect role or involvement of the PTI in manipulation or unlawful interference in the conduct or organisation of the elections it should be brought before the commission.
It emphasised that the PTI was not in the government in KP or any other province prior to the elections and nor did it have any direct involvement in the selection and appointment of the caretaker governments. Therefore, it did not have the means or opportunity to unduly influence or manipulate the elections.
Moreover, it said, the number of ballot papers printed in excess of the number of registered voters in National Assembly constituencies of KP from which PTI candidates had won was low when compared with other areas.
However, the PTI concurred with the PPP’s assertion that the commission had to carry the burden of discovering a plan or design and its authors even if no party were to answer the questions raised by it

ANOSHBA CYCLONE 1,575 KM Away From Karachi

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a cyclone alert for Karachi, in the wake of a ‘potential cyclonic activity’ in Arabian Sea.
According to PMD, the persistence of clouds in Arabian Sea shows an area of convection with a potential of development of a cyclonic circulation. A deep low pressure area developing in the sea at a distance of 1600 km south of Pakistan coast, may turn into a cyclone in next couple of days, PMD said. It said Cyclone Warning Centre (Karachi) is monitoring the local and regional meteorological conditions regularly.
PMD said a weather advisory, in case of any cyclonic activity, will be issued in next 24 hrs. All stakeholders and concerned authorities have been advised to be alert about the situation. The storm will be named Ashubha if it develops into a full-blown cyclone, said the Met Office.
The alert comes a day after many parts of Sindh received showers with gusty winds, and a massive dust storm whipped across Karachi. The second storm of the summer blasted the metropolis with strong and blinding winds that forced the people to take shelter. The dust enveloped the city and caused traffic jams as drivers slowed down because of poor visibility.
Met Office says, the storm may usher in the yearly monsoon season, bringing with it localized heavy rains.

Bad governance: Punjab govt has failed on all counts, says Rasheed

Bad governance: Punjab govt has failed on all counts, says Rasheed
Speaking at a press conference, Rasheed issued a white paper criticising the government’s performance over the last two years.
He accused Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif of ignoring the assembly and it’s members saying that he made key decisions at his Raiwind and Model Town residences.
Citing last year’s unrest in Model Town, Youhannabd riots, the Wagha Border attack, the Shadbagh fire and the recent killing of two lawyers in Daska, Rasheed said the government had lost its credibility. “These incidents are a slap in the face of the government. People across the province feel insecure and ignored because of bad governance,” he said.
The opposition leader also criticised police. He said instead of protecting lives and properties many in the force resorted to criminal activities. He said that despite Rs80 billion being spent on police annually, the crime rate had gone up in the province.
Rasheed said nearly 200,000 incidents of crime happened monthly. He said in many instances police avoided registering FIRs to show a lower crime rate. He said FIRs were registered in 25 per cent of all complaints received by police. He said police did not register 22 per cent of the kidnapping cases.
He said the number of fake police encounters across the province had risen by 10 per cent. Crime against women had increased by 19 per cent. He said more than 50 per cent of criminals were set free for lack of evidence. He said there had been an increase in incidents of kidnapping and sectarian killing.
Rasheed criticised the government for not making public Justice Baqir Ali Najfi’s report about Model Town riots. Instead, he said, the government had formed a joint investigation team to investigate the violence. He said Rana Sanaulllah who had recently been made a minister once again should have refused to take the oath of office.
“All segments of society, including the blind, the mute, farmers, doctors, nurses and teachers, have taken to streets against the government’s performance,” he said.
Rasheed said the government had failed to provide relief to farmers. He said many sugarcane growers had not been paid for their crop.
Rasheed said the provincial government’s debt had gone up from Rs452 billion to Rs580 billion after it obtained another $850 million loan recently.
He slammed the government for failing to overcome load shedding of electricity. He said load shedding for up to 16 hours a day was the norm in many districts.
He said progress could not be made until the government focused on peace, health, education and human development. “The common man is suffering but the government is busy working on metro buses,” he said.
Rasheed demanded that the chief minister attend assembly sessions and stop making key decisions at his Raiwind “palace”.
